Tamaulipas
The state of Tamaulipas is one of Mexico's northern states. Bordering the U.S. to the north, its eastern edge runs along the Gulf of Mexico. It is bounded to the south by the states of Veracruz and San Luis Potosi and to the west by the state of Nuevo Leon.
Tamaulipas has, in great part, a dry to semi-dry climate in most areas except the coastal plain and the Huasteca in the south-eastern portion of the state. Its beach destinations include Playa Bagdad near Matamoros, and La Carbonera and Miramar. Within Tamaulipas's confines lies the El Cieo Biosphere reserve providing areas for hiking, camping and the observation of the regional wildlife and vegetation.
The state capital is the city of Ciudad Victoria, traversed by the Tropic of Cancer. Other important cities include Matamoros, Reynosa and Nuevo Laredo along the U.S. border, San Fernando just north of Cd. Victoria, and the port of Tampico on the Gulf coast.
Tamaulipas is a favorite spot for fishermen, both for saltwater catches in the coastal areas and for bass fishing in Lake Guerrero.
