 Sayulita, Punta De Mita: Travelogue

Posted by Hank (Hang10er @ aol.com)

I managed a trip from Corpus Christi,TX to the Puerto Vallarta area if anyone needs help planning one. My buddy and I drove to Laredo and stashed our car there. We then hopped a Greyhound down to Guadalajara. Another bus took us into Puerto V. We then taxied up the coast 30 minutes to Sayulita. For first timers, Sayulita is a good destination. It's a small village on a cove. There's a right and left break at the river mouth. People are friendly and things are safe. Not much night life but the Tiendas sell cold beer. You need a ride or a rental car and you can head out to the point (Punta de Mita) and surf some of the spots there. They usually catch the better swells.

I would definitely recommend renting a car so that if Sayulita is not catching a swell you can move around. Maybe even having to go down to Ticla or Tecoman. The break at Sayulita is very easy, but you can get some heavier waves at Burros or Dinosaurs out at the point. And of course, La Ticla and Pasquales to the south can humble you. Sayulita can be done for a week on $300 or so.
